Austrian Airlines has announced the grand reveal of their Senator Lounge, one of the carrier’s five lounges in Vienna International airport. While two business class lounges have already received a refresh, the remaining business class lounge and Senator lounge will be complete by the end of the Spring.
While fairly basic in appearance, the minimalist look has been dubbed as ‘design with a focus on Austria and individuality’ by the airline. The overall look is brought to life with the injection of mountain-scapes, real Austrian beech trees (that have been specially conserved) and the addition of artworks such as Klimt paintings.
There are injections of humour, such as the mountain shaped seating benches in the lounges, and soft furnishings, carpets and curtains all helping soften the edges of an otherwise very functional design.
In total, 670,000 visitors used Austrian’s lounges in Vienna airport last year, and the renovations to the space will be a welcome upgrade, even if they don’t have all the bells and whistles of other carriers across Europe and the Middle East.
There are some great benefits though, such as the Do&Co catering, one of the better suppliers our there and the preservation of the relaxation areas that offer a small more intimate haven to catch some shut eye between flights.
