Meet the world’s first Flying Honu. As part of ANA’s competition to design a special one off livery for their new A380, the winner has been selected to celebrate the Tokyo-Honolulu route that the aircraft will fly. The design will see the largest possible animal painted on a plane, far larger than the Alaska Airlines Salmon, or Emirates ‘United for Wildlife’ aircraft.

Starting in 2019, the double decker will be specifically designed to match the popular city pair both inside and out. The Hawaiian Green sea turtle, Honu symbolises good luck and prosperity. An in-house selection committee awarded the grand prize to Chihiro Masuoka of Tokyo, for his concept “Sea Turtle Family,” featuring the Hawaiian green sea turtle—a symbol of good luck and prosperity in Hawaii. Mr. Masuoka was awarded a pair of roundtrip business-class tickets for ANA’s Tokyo-Honolulu route.

In addition to the design contest’s grand prize winner, four runners up, including the creators of the design “Stephen+Cayden” from the state of Hawaii, will receive commemorative gifts from ANA. We will report back on the cabin interior developments when they are made available.
