In a recent event in Malaysia, the country’s flag-carrier revealed new cabins for the airline’s impending A330neo fleet, with the first of these shiny new aircraft scheduled for delivery in Q3 2024. We are thrilled to see the airline really doubling down on its proposition in a bid to win back market share.

The A330neo will comprise 297 seats with 28 in Business Class and 269 in Economy Class, of which 24 seats come with extra legroom.

We’ve always felt Malaysia Airlines has all the trademarks of being a leading carrier, but historically the high-density cabins have let the airline down in cementing a position as a leading premium carrier. It seems the recent reveal has a second, more hidden agenda of repositioning the airline as an airline of choice for long-haul premium travel.

The new A330neo cabin will feature many ‘firsts’ including the introduction of the Collins Aerospace Elevation Business Class seats. These seats might look familiar, as they are the same as British Airways new Club Suites, which just reaffirms that MAS means business here. The new cabins feature an all-suite product with individual privacy doors, as well as wireless charging pods available in all 28 of the Business Class seats across 7 rows in a 1 x 2 x 1 configuration.

While the airline still hasn’t opted for a premium economy cabin, one of our favourites – the Recaro CL3810 Economy Class seats are the perfect addition to the airline’s economy offering, with thoughtful amenities such as coat hooks, cup holder and ample stowage for added cabin comfort and practicality.

The seat covers throughout the cabin (along with the business class shell) will feature the airline’s signature Songket motif, paying homage to Malaysia’s cultural heritage by seamlessly blending tradition with contemporary style.

We look forward to seeing the cabins hit the sky, and the best thing, is that the airline will also be retrofitting their existing fleet, including the A350s in the coming months and years, albeit that the A350 won’t see these new cabins until the end of next year.
